GMP stands for Good Manufacturing Practice and this was brought up by the US Food and Drug Administration under the authority of Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. With this regulation, it forces the manufacturers, processors, packagers take proactive steps to ensure that their products are safe, pure and effective. With GMP in action, one can expect quality approach to manufacturing processes that will enable companies to minimize/eliminate instances of contamination, mix-ups and errors etc. Failure to comply with GMP regulations will result in serious consequences of seizure, fines, bans etc. GMP is also sometimes referred to as cGMP where the “c” stands for “current,” reminding manufacturers that they must employ technologies and systems which are up-to-date in order to comply with the regulation.

The GMP regulations work on 5 ‘P’ which is
People

Processes
This ensures the processes have proper or clear consistent documentation, records which are distributed to all employees. Regular evaluation should be conducted to ensure all employees are complying with the current processes and are meeting the required standards of the organization.
Procedures

Premises

GMP standards are specially developed to enhance the safety/quality of manufactured products, especially pharmaceutical goods which ensure the consumers get the best quality possible. Adherence to GMP standards not only positively impacts the reputation of manufacturing companies but also reduces batch recalls and negative reports from consumers.
